My red carpet dream and pieces of advice that helped me get there

(this image has nothing to do with this post but I had it in France and it was to die for, therefore it’s worth using)

Three years ago, I sat around a small table at the Hyatt in Detroit trying to muster up an “A” answer to my coach, Erika Lyremark’s question, “What’s your red carpet dream?

I sat irritated with myself and bummed I was letting her down (even though I wasn’t) because I just couldn’t come up with an answer that felt like me. That didn’t stop her, so she tried again, “Ok, well who online are you jealous of, or who would you love to do business like theirs one day.”

I answered that question without a hesitation, “Nisha Moodley,” I said. Erika probing me even more, asked, “Why, what about her business?”

The traveling, retreats, connection, intimacy, freedom and vulnerability of her and her work is what I was most attracted to her work for.” It took me a few years, but once The Meeting Place began to form, I began to see that that is where this work of mine will come to be.

Which is why once I announced I was quitting my coaching business, Erika asked me again, “Can you tell me what your red carpet dream is NOW?”

I responded with excitement and as fast as my fingers would allow me to type. “To lead a diverse, living their best life group of women who love themselves and God and others. They are chasing their dreams and changing lives. This will include me writing another book, leading retreats, and helping women get healthy naturally.”

I beamed with joy when I read her response, “I’m finally satisfied with your answer, you get an A+, !”

Erika wasn’t the only woman who helped me evolve my business along the way, ever since I started End Sex Trafficking Day, God has blessed my life with so many women who are there when I need them, there to give me advice when I need it most.

So today I want to share some of the best advice that helped me come to the place I am now…the place where I knew I had to give up my old red carpet dream, the dream that I thought I had, the dream that told me I had to do what nygoodhealth.com everyone else was doing. The “Marie Forleo dream”, the “Danielle LaPorte dream” I was ready for my dream, and I hope this helps you stand up for your dream too.

  • Christina Rasmussen once told me, “this is just your beginning. You are different from all the others…follow that difference within you. It will lead you to where you are meant to be.

This helped me realize, my best work hasn’t even happened yet as I had been living in fear thinking it was done and over.

  • Tanya Geisler once said, “It’s called expansion and everyone (EVERYONE) faces the pain when they decide to do so. You following your own path, is brave stuff. Watch your kids as they start and play. They don’t question the outcome. And when you are doing your best work, you don’t either.”

This helped me realize, I wasn’t crazy. The evolution was normal, we all do it and yes it hurts and yes it’s frustrating, but it MUST happen.

  • Amanda Farough once reminded me that “Perfect is the enemy of done.

I’ve always, always wanted things to be “just right” but in reality it’s only held me back.

There have been so many other much needed pieces of advice since 2011, but these are the ones that stand out. So thank you Amanda, Erika, Tanya, Nisha and Christina your words and work still ring true to me today.

What pieces of advice stand out for you? What piece of advice are you so glad you received when you needed it? Remember that today — write it down if you need to, at times we all need those words to motivate us to keep going.

What am I up to now, since quitting?

I am now helping women help their families heal and love naturally, leading a fitness challenge called fitSpark for The Meeting Place AND still hooking you up with my unique courses for hundreds of dollars off for a few more days here.
